A Time To Heal Cancer Foundation Names New Executive Director and Program Manager
Providing education and assistance for cancer survivors since 2005, A Time to Heal Cancer Foundation (ATTH) welcomes new executive director to further the organization’s growth and support even more survivors and their caregivers.
“With advanced technology and medical treatments, more people than ever before are surviving cancer,” said Anne Walsh, ATTH board chair. “We are thrilled Brenda Helget is joining ATTH, to expand our mission of helping survivors create their best lives following diagnosis.”
“I’ve spent a good part of my career advocating for medical patients, healthcare and healthcare prevention, but nothing prepared me for my own breast cancer diagnosis in 2016. I was shocked at the long-term effects of treatment on my mind and my body,” Helget said.
“The need for easily accessible rehabilitation programs for cancer survivors has never been greater than during this time. I look forward to partnering with cancer centers, medical professionals, community leaders, businesses and philanthropists, with the goal of bringing A Time to Heal to every cancer survivor in need of its services.”
Helget has 22 years of fundraising experience, along with 28 years in nonprofit work to the team, and previously has worked with Methodist Hospital Foundation and UNMC’s College of Medicine, including Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, and the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
She received her Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) status in 2004 and a Certificate in Fundraising Management from UNO in 2003. Helget also holds certification from Indiana University’s Fund Raising School. A presenter for fundraising and nonprofit lectures, she has addressed local organizations and nationally for The Chronicle of Philanthropy and the Association of Fundraising Professional’s International Conference.
“Also joining ATTH is Kelly Mand as program manager. In her role she will be expanding the organization’s reach to help more survivors, caregivers and metastatic patients though our service offerings.”
Previously, Mand managed a portfolio of health system accounts for the advancement of cancer control goals with the American Cancer Society partnering with community health centers and local coalitions to increase cancer screening rates and access to cancer screenings.
“I have a passion to help those around me. This is evidenced not only by the work done in my career, but also in the ways that I spend my free time. I lost my mom to cancer when I was 16 years old. I feel very privileged for the opportunity to honor my mom’s legacy by supporting cancer survivors, metastatic patients and their caregivers during their cancer journey.”
Mand is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Omaha and is an active TeamMates mentor.
